One melody. Four voices.
For every note of your melody there are a dozen chords that could go under it. The decision model gives each one a probability; the app writes the alto, tenor and bass. A replication of Google’s 2019 Bach Doodle with a general decision model.
Model answers are recorded. Your own melody uses local counts and rules, with no model.
Behind the demo
Harmonize like Bach
The app lists the Bach-style chords that contain each melody note. The decision model gives each one a probability, after seeing how often Bach used it there. A short search over textbook progression rules picks the sequence, and voice-leading rules write the inner voices. The model never writes notes; it ranks what the app lists.
On 99 Bach phrases the models never saw, Spinda Large picked the chord Bach wrote on 53.0% of beats and Jev on 55.4%, vs 41.4% for Google’s Coconet. With no model, Bach’s chord counts alone reach 54.4%. Matching Bach is not the same as sounding better.
