Call and answer.
For each note of the reply the app lists nine moves. The decision model ranks them, and the app draws one. A replication of Google Creative Lab’s 2016 A.I. Duet, with Google’s own model to compare.
Model answers are recorded. Your own phrase uses local counts, with no model.
Behind the demo
Duet
The app lists the nine moves from the last note, up to four scale steps up or down. The decision model scores them after seeing your phrase, the reply so far and similar Bach hymn tunes. The app combines its odds with how often Bach’s melodies move each way, then draws the note. The reply keeps your rhythm and lands on the home note.
Predicting the next note Bach wrote, on 110 phrase pairs the models never saw, Spinda Large’s top pick was right 40.7% of the time and Jev’s 41.4%, vs 33.6% for Google’s A.I. Duet model. With no model, Bach’s move counts alone reach 38.0%. Predicting Bach is not the same as sounding better.
