Hook Radar

Which hooks win clicks?

Spinda reads a hook and answers yes or no to questions like “Does it ask a question?” Those answers, checked against 1,099 real headline A/B tests, show which hooks get more clicks. Pick a hook to see what Spinda finds and what to change.

    The questions Spinda answers

      Does reading the hook help?

      What won and what lost

Extra clicks for headlines with each hook, compared with headlines without it in the same test. Every hook and word here held up on tests it wasn’t found on.

Run it on your own tests

      1. Export your A/B tests as a CSV with one row per variant: test id, text, impressions and clicks. Ads, email subject lines and landing-page headlines all work.
      2. Run Hook Radar on it with your Spinda key.
        uv run python -m hook_radar --csv my_tests.csv
      3. Open the page it writes. It shows which hooks and words won in your tests, checked on the other half of them.
      4. Check new hooks before you test them.
        uv run python -m hook_radar.check drafts.txt

Tests: Upworthy Research Archive (Matias, Munger, Aubin Le Quere & Ebersole, 2021, osf.io/jd64p), CC BY 4.0. News headlines from 2013–2015; clicks, not sales. Answers: Spinda Large (decision-model-large). Spinda sees only the hook’s text and the questions.
